9 Of The Best Met Gala Looks Of All Time
Before this year’s Met Gala kicks off, lets rewind and take a look at some iconic outfits from previous years.
1. Lady Gaga, 2019
When given the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, Lady Gaga knows how to deliver. The artist’s friendship with Brandon Maxwell came in handy for this ostentatious display; it was more of a performance fashion/art piece than an outfit! The 4-part look featured a strip down from stunningly outrageous fuchsia pink gown to her underwear and fishnet tights.
2. Billy Porter, 2019
Matching Gaga in level of “camp-ness” that year, Billy Porter was carried in atop shoulders of 6 shirtless men wearing a custom “sun god” catsuit with wings. A look that will go down in Met Gala history.
3. Cher, 1974
Cher graced the Met steps in 1974 in a gorgeous “naked” dress, like the true icon she is.
4. Stormzy, 2022
A classic white suit with a cape twist may seem simple, but it truly screamed “emperor”.
5. Cara Delevingne, 2022
Painted in gold with Dior Haute Couture on top, Delevingne was dapper and poised on the red carpet. Her Giuseppe Zanotti platforms gave the height, and her gold nipple covers and body chains gave the WOW when she removed her jacket.
6. Blake Lively, 2018
Lively’s delicately ornate ruby dress took over 600 hours to make, and it was clearly worth the time. The actress dazzled the crowd with this piece and matching headdress.
7. Emily Ratajkowski, 2019
This sensual Dundas number hinted to the earlier Bob Mackie dress worn by Cher, with Ratajkowski adding a decadent winged headpiece. This is definitely one of my favourites.
8. Kylie and Kendall Jenner, 2019
The Jenner sisters were giving “chic exotic birds” in their respective lilac and orange Versace dresses, their silhouettes nodding to Vegas showgirls. Kylie even matched her hair to the gown.
9. Zendaya, 2018
Last but not least, Zendaya was battle-ready in her Versace chain mail the previous year. The actress and model delivered a powerful piece, and her angular bob topped off this fierce look.
The 2023 Met Gala will be held on the 1st of May this year under the theme: “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” to honour the late designer.
