How to wear Spring ’18 Trends on Campus
This spring has truly brought in some ground-breaking trends as we’ve moved away from the romantic floral looks, to the boldly coloured fierce looks that represent a strong and grounded woman. This post will be a quick guide on how to adopt these trends and make them Campus-approved.
Stylist tip: Adopting all trends is simply impossible. The reason so many trends come out every year is in order for everyone to find at least one trend that will fit their style. So instead of spending hours thinking how you can integrate each and every trend into your style, pick and choose the ones you feel represent you best and work from there. Having said that let’s get to the trends:
#1 Bag Layering

Is there a more perfect trend for students than multiple bags?! When I saw models walk the runway holding layers of bags in all the dominant fashion weeks, a feeling of justice ran through me. It’s always hard to find one bag that is stylish and big enough to hold all your things. Holding multiple bags is perfect for busy students who go from class to sports practice or out at night. I was also very happy to see big bags making a comeback to support busy women but also create a strong look!
Adopting the layered bag look for campus calls is super easy! Just pair your favourite tote bag with a small stylish handbag that only fits your personal possessions and there you have it! Super in and super fierce x
#2 Pastel Colours
Versace
Pastels + Spring just go together. This trend made its way back a few years ago and it’s here to stay! Which is great cause pastels are perfect for daytime when most lectures take place.
What we saw in a lot of runways is that there is an easiness and softness in the garments showcased. Especially in London Fashion Week, wearable street clothes were big. I think that pastels and streetwear is a very fresh way to look put together but also be comfortable! Try adding a pastel top to your look and if you’re feeling bold, why not go for a unicolour look?

#3 Bold Colours
Kinda contradicts the Pastel trend, but like I said, pick and choose your trends depending on your personal style, skin tone etc.

Bold colours were seen a lot in this Milan Fashion Week. We saw a lot of models in shape tailored looks all in bold colours. To translate this for uni-wear, why not try a bold coloured blazer paired with some denim and a white T-shirt? Super comfy and super cool!
#4 Checks

I was pretty sure that checks were gonna go away pretty soon, but it looks like they're staying. Checks look very intricate and add a nice visual play to your outfit. They can be easily paired with anything and it instantly makes you look like you put a lot of effort in the outfit, because of the strong look that this pattern has.
I would love to see check paired with a pop of bold colour as it creates a very cool contrast.

#5 Plastic
Yes, plastic. High-end brands are just not letting this one go. I’m not crazy about plastic garments and I won’t suggest walking around uni in plastic boots. Super uncomfortable and steamy feet are not cute.
But if you want to play with the texture, try adding it to your accessories like your tote bag or colourful bracelets.

#6 Sheer
Another trend that won’t go away. But we don't mind that! I feel that sheer layers add really cool dimensions to your outfits.
A very important statement that a lot of designers seemed to make on the runway is covering up. We didn't see a lot of skin in the Fashion Weeks of this year and I feel that this message translates to supporting the image of strong women being a force.
So, I believe that sheerness can give an edge to your covered-up looks this spring. Try layering your plain tank top with a sheer T-shirt to give dimension and achieve a cooler look through the layering.

#7 Ruffles

For a lecture outfit, I would pair a cool ruffled top with an all denim suit and some delicate jewellery (silver is very popular this season). Cool texture combination but comfortable at the same time!
I was so surprised to see ruffles come back this spring. But I feel that this is a very soft and delicate trend that creates a nice contrast with the other trends. The geometry of the ruffles creates an interesting play with the eye, and it maintains the softness and wearability that is so important this season.

#8 Boots
The grounding factor. Boots have been so popular for a few years now and I’m happy to see them stay in style, as their very practical and comfortable for running around campus.
Styling boots for daytime looks is very easy, as you can pair them with literally anything from denim to maxi skirts, so get creative with this one!
#9 Fringe and Sequins
Summer transitioning trends! These two don’t necessarily go together, but both create an interesting play with the eye when they move and they both remind me a lot of summertime.
Fringe can add a really cool bohemian touch to your uni looks. Try pairing a fringed jacket with a loose and casual look to add movement to your outfit.
Sequins are not exactly appropriate for daytime. If you're eager to wear this trend though I would suggest keeping it to the accessories. Maybe sequins hair accessories like scrunchies or hair clips. They will add a nice yet subtle sparkle to your outfit and would look amazing with a pastel look.
