Inside the Society: Sewing and Pattern Making
As a fashion society we try to give our members an insight into all aspects of fashion.
I run our Sewing and Pattern Making Classes for people of all levels. I taught myself how to design, sew and make patterns for men’s formalwear and I feel that the skills that I have learnt are very applicable for womenswear too.
In the Pattern Making side I will be teaching how to make pattern pieces from existing clothing- the first technique that I learnt. This is a great problem solving exercise that will give you fantastic insight on how clothes are constructed in general.
I can also aid individuals in making basic block patterns if they wish. My sewing Skills agenda will focus on hand sewing and construction techniques such as welt pockets.
Remember, I can direct the class in the direction that will suit all of you to the best of my abilities. Think of my classes like a forum; we share the skills we have so if you know something, don’t keep quiet!
