Freshers Styling Tips
It’s official fresher season and we are so excited to see what the new season is going to bring into the NUFS! Since most of us have been through freshers (maybe a couple times), as the NUFS committee we decided to share some tips on how to get through freshers like a pro without any cringy fashion moments.
small bag
Tiny bags have been in for a moment now, so you should enjoy the practicality of carrying a small bag around while the trend lasts! A small bag is perfect for a time like freshers. It can safely store your essentials without weighing you down while you’re exploring a new city or attending events.
dad sneakers
We see the classics coming back not just by our beloved sports brands but also by big fashion houses. We say take advantage of this eccentric and comfortable trend. A nice pair of dad sneakers will keep you on your feet throughout the day (and night) but unlike regular sneakers the thick soles will give you that extra “oomph” that heels have to offer and will give an interesting styling to your outfit.
accessories
No need to go all out on statement pieces. You’ll be spending a lot of hours outside so, keep it comfortable. You can add major impact with a few necklaces against a plain white t-shirt or with some arm bling.
Quick fix: monochrome looks
Got a 9am but stayed out till 5am last night? WE GOT YOU BOO. Going for a unicolored look will save you so much time but make you look super put together and coordinated. Don’t get us wrong, we love color blocking. But monochromatic looks is a major time saver, take our word for it.
Thicc fabrics and layering
If you’re an international student coming from a warm country we feel you. It can get really cold in the uk but locals don't even bother to take a jacket on a night out (don’t do that; you need a jacket). For us who have not been blessed with immunity to the cold weather lets talk about layers.
Don’t be afraid to play with proportions this winter. One of the most appeared trends in the 2018 fall/winter collections was layering and 80s maximalist silhouettes. Exaggerated proportions can look really cool especially if they are well balanced. Try pairing a really oversized sweater with a pair of tight pants (a classic), wear a turtle neck with 70’s mood flares or belt a blazer and add a big coat over it. Don’t be afraid to elongate your silhouette with a maxi coat over your outfit. There are so many cool combos to try out!
Overall remember to be your most authentic selves! Our tips are only meant to enhance your own personal style and we hope we’ve helped this time. We wish everyone an awesome freshers week! If you’re in Newcastle this year come say hi at the societies fair or check out our events in our calendar. We have so many things coming up!
